Hey, Ronnie here, founder of PLR.me
0:02
and I want to show you how you can download an item from the peeler dummy content library and how you can then swap out and create your own covers for reports and books or slide decks using a few very simple and free to use tools.
0:19
So let's get started.
0:20
Right now I'm here in the parenting and family category and I see here there's a really cool new report called the parenting principles.
0:28
So I'm going to go ahead and take a look at that and I can see more information about that here.
0:34
I can also see it's an extensive report.
0:37
80 pages looks exactly like something that my audience would be interested in.
0:42
So I'm going to go ahead and click on download.
0:45
Now what's gonna happen is it's going to download all of the associated files, including the source files, the PDF version, and so on.
0:53
Okay, so I've gone ahead and opened up the file and you can see that you get different, uh, source files, including the editable Apple pages file, which is the design file if you're on a Mac.
1:03
Also the PDF version and so on.
1:06
So if you're on a Mac, you can go ahead and open up the Apple pages file.
1:10
You can edit the cover because the cover is designed, they're in Apple pages, but for this demo, for this tutorial, I'm going to open up the PDF.
1:19
Now I'm going to open this up and you can see here, here's the PDF cover and then we have the second page, a little copyright page, a table of contents, and so on.
1:29
Beautifully designed, ready to go for you, and you can take a look.
1:33
It's a really extensive report.
1:37
Now if I would like, I can go ahead and add my branding onto the front cover without editing, without changing the cover design.
1:47
I'm going to show you how you can do that now.
1:49
Okay, so here I am, where a all of our members exclusive tools are, and these are only available for four members of PLR.me
1:58
And you can see we have a tool called the PDF brand, or I'm going to go in there and what I'm going to do is I want to brand that front cover.
2:05
I want to put my name on there.
2:07
So what I'm going to do is I'm going to go choose the position and I'll choose, Oh, let's see, center top.
2:15
And I'm going to change the font size to be quite a bit bigger.
2:18
Now I'm just going to play with it cause honestly I don't actually know what font size I want to use yet.
2:24
And then I'm just going to type in my name here and um, I'm actually not gonna make the URL.
2:30
No, not going to put a URL on my name because it's just my name and I'm going to change the pages to just be the first page because I only want to have my name on the first page.
2:41
I don't want my name on every single page.
2:43
So what I'm going to do next is take this PDF file, drag it where it's as select files, and now my PDF is Brandon.
2:52
Now let's take a look.
2:53
I have no idea what it's going to look like now, but let's take a look.
2:56
Okay, here we go.
2:56
Here's my name.
2:58
Little bit tough to read because of the person's hair here.
3:00
Maybe I can increase, um, the font size a little bit or decrease a little bit.
3:05
Um, you know, let's, let's also try to change the colors.
3:09
So let's go with Hm, let's actually go with a kind of a similar color to that.
3:15
So I'm going to choose and just play with the colors here.
3:19
I'm just going to eyeball it and I'm going to make it a darker font.
3:24
Now I'm going to go again drag that PDF.
3:28
I have the net new version now so it should be a little bit different here with a little bit different color and a much bolder font.
3:36
And there we go.
3:37
So now I have my front cover ready.
3:40
It has my name on it, it looks fantastic.
3:43
I can absolutely run with this and um, share this, sell it branded, do whatever you'd like with it.
3:49
We already branded it here.
3:50
Using the PDF brand are really super simple, easy tool.
3:54
And that's just putting the branding on the first page.
3:56
I can then go ahead and say, you know what I want at the bottom to have my website or I want to have my a call to action.
4:04
Hey, book a coaching session with me here.
4:06
And you can do all those sorts of things with the PDF brander but for now that's the first version.
4:12
This is the second version and I think we're good to go.
4:16
But what if you want to change the cover entirely?
4:20
Something completely different.
4:21
Maybe you want to match your own style branding, um, or, or you just want to change the title of the cover.
4:28
I'm going to show you how to do that next.
4:30
Okay, so here I'm in a tool called Canva.
4:32
It's a free web based tool where you can create banners and graphics and ads and book covers.
4:39
So what I'm going to do is go down here to where it says book cover and the choose that.
4:44
Now, um, when I go into here, it's going to be a little bit of a different page size then the book.
4:53
So I'm going to show you here.
4:54
If I open up this PDF, I can see that it's pretty tall and I noticed because the, the way the book cover is it's an eight and a half by five and a half, so it's eight and a half inches tall by five and a half inches.
5:08
Why all of our books are in that format, unless it's a worksheet, then it's just a eight and a half by 11 regular sheet of paper.
5:16
So what I'm going to do, the first thing I'm going to do is actually choose a, a template or one of these free templates here.
5:22
And I'm going to, I don't know here, let's let me choose this one here.
5:25
So it kind of looks neat and what it's going to do is going to load up this template on here, but I'm going to also, like I said, change the dimension.
5:34
So I go to file, go to change dimensions, use custom dimensions, and then I'm going to choose inches.
5:42
So here I'm going to type in 5.5
5:45
and then you're going to type it 8.5
5:46
because that is the size of the books.
5:49
Okay, so we're, we're, we're getting there.
5:52
Now obviously we need to start changing up some of the text.
5:56
I want to include my name.
5:57
I want to include the title of the book, the subtitle, and in this case, what we're going to do.
6:02
So I'm going to open this up here and what I want to do is I'm going to change the title of the book instead of parenting principles.
6:12
I'll call it the parenting toolbox.
6:15
So let me click on the text here.
6:17
I'm going to type in the parenting toolbox.
6:22
Okay, so there we go.
6:24
Now the background doesn't entirely make sense.
6:26
You know the water not really fitting with the whole idea of parenting.
6:31
So what I'm going to do is I'm going to use a tool called every pixel.
6:35
And what I'm going to do is that going to search for the keyword parenting.
6:40
Now if I go into here and I click on free only, I'm going to see images that are absolutely free that I could use without having to pay any royalties or anything like that.
6:49
So parenting free only, and I'm going to click on search.
6:54
Okay, so already some absolutely beautiful photos here.
6:58
But here's a tip for you.
7:00
This design that we're working on, it's actually in portrait mode, right?
7:05
It's taller than it is wide.
7:07
So a lot of these images, they're wider than they are tall.
7:11
They're in landscape mode.
7:12
Well, I'm going to go here and click on vertical and now I'm going to see pictures that are royalty free, either absolutely free with the keyword parenting and that are vertical.
7:23
You can see there's some beautiful pictures here.
7:25
Now you want to be careful when choosing a picture, because if it's a book cover, you want to have some area where you can actually place the text, right?
7:34
So for example, some of these pictures here, I mean these, these, they're, they're nice pictures, they kind of seem more like family photos, but there's no real place to put text.
7:44
In an example, let's say here, there's some, there's definitely some place to put text because there's a blank area at the top, even some blank area at the bottom.
7:53
Same with this.
7:53
Here are some area at the bottom, but there's a really cool feature of every pixel called free areas.
8:00
I'm going to click on that.
8:01
I'm going to say, you know what, I want to make sure that there's some space at the top so that I can put the title.
8:08
And so here we are.
8:09
Here's some parenting photos.
8:11
You can, you can do a search and, and, and uh, you can try other keywords too, like family and other things.
8:17
But I really like this one here because here's why.
8:20
And I'll explain.
8:21
There's a huge area at the top.
8:23
There's an area on the left or is even in a little area at the bottom where I could put text and I'm not, um, I'm not covering up the image.
8:30
It's beautiful.
8:31
The colors are stunning.
8:33
I think it would look fantastic.
8:35
So I'm gonna go ahead and click on free download.
8:37
It will take me to the place where I can download it absolutely free.
8:41
Look on free download here and some great pictures that you can download.
8:45
Again, absolutely free.
8:47
So here I am in Canva and now what I'm going to do is I'm going to drag this picture right onto the backdrop, the backdrop.
8:55
So here we are, it's uploading and here we go.
8:59
So I'm going to um, take out the old one.
9:03
I'm going to drop this one in here and you can see, wow.
9:06
Already totally different than how the original cover looks.
9:11
Here's the original cover and you can see it looks completely different already.
9:14
And I'm just getting started.
9:16
So the font is okay.
9:19
You know, I can play with that a little bit.
9:21
I'm going to check out some of the fonts in here and there are all the hot, there are definitely a lot of fonts.
9:28
Um Hmm.
9:29
Let's try this one here.
9:32
And uh, I'm going to resize this down a little bit.
9:36
Why?
9:36
Cause again, I want to, I want to make sure we see the parents, we see the child.
9:41
And I'm going to edit this a little bit.
9:43
I'm going to make it left aligned and I'm going to reduce the font size because it is a bit big.
9:49
You get a little bit wider here.
9:51
Okay.
9:52
So here we go.
9:53
We now have the, the title.
9:55
We're not really blocking anything per se, and we have these cool lines that the template gave us.
10:01
I'm going to put that in here and I'm going to put the name up here.
10:05
So I'm going to just type in John Smith and I'm gonna increase that font size because it is pretty small.
10:12
And then that's a little bit too big.
10:15
There we go.
10:15
And I'm gonna erase this text here and I'm actually, I could also put written by John Smith down here.
10:23
Um, yeah, you know what?
10:24
Let's do that.
10:25
Let's do that.
10:26
John Smith.
10:28
Okay.
10:28
So up here I'm actually going to just, um, remove that.
10:33
Okay.
10:33
So we've got a lot of space here and I could, I could play with this a little bit.
10:38
I can move this up now that we have extra white space.
10:42
Um Hmm.
10:45
You know what I'm going to do?
10:45
I'm going to show you a little trick so most people don't understand sort of the flow of texts and how you could really make it pop and look really great.
10:55
But you can see there's a lot of spacing between each line.
10:59
And then also we have vow, which is a really short line than parenting, which is a really long line.
11:04
The longest line.
11:05
And then toolbox.
11:07
Well I'm going to adjust this a little bit.
11:09
So I'm going to first of all fix up the spacing and re reduce the line Heights.
11:14
It's a little bit closer together.
11:15
It looks a little bit neater.
11:16
And then what I'm going to do, I'm going to decrease the font size of the parenting.
11:23
Actually, you know what, I'm, so Ken was a little bit limiting because you can't reduce unfortunately the font size of one part of the line.
11:32
It's kind of all or nothing.
11:34
So we're going to actually like take out that parenting piece there and I'm going to go to text and I'm going to add another, um, uh, another font here and the font was Cooper.
11:47
So I'm gonna make this the same thing and I'm going to reduce that size like I was hoping to.
11:55
Okay.
11:57
So the parenting toolbox, I'm going to reduce it a bit more.
12:03
Let's left align it
12:07
the box a little bit smaller so it all fits nicely.
12:10
Okay.
12:11
And looking pretty good so far.
12:13
I'm gonna make the toolbox a little bit bigger.
12:15
It's actually gonna make everything bigger because again, that's sort of how Canva is.
12:19
So I'm going to actually erase that, the, and I'll make that in a separate line as well.
12:24
So I'm going to show you my trick.
12:26
Just a second here.
12:28
So I'm going to make this about 23, and I'm going to add
12:35
the text here
12:38
and what am I going to do?
12:39
Because it's such a simple word, doesn't really need to be so big.
12:44
I'm going to actually make that a lot smaller.
12:48
And now, I mean, I didn't mean for these to be black.
12:50
That's sort of the default that that happened.
12:52
Um, but I see that we have some neat colors already in here and I'd love to find a complimentary color.
12:58
So I can go in here and I can use this little color, um, color wheel in here.
13:05
Um, okay, I'm going to click on the plus sign.
13:07
I can see the color wheel here and I can kind of spin it and play with it.
13:10
But I find when most people do this, we kind of go a little crazy.
13:15
And so you end up getting things like this where the colors don't really match.
13:19
It's kinda hard to read that it's, it's not a good contrast.
13:23
So, um, you try to stick with colors that are in the pallet that are sort of already in the image.
13:30
So I'm going to go in here and I'm going to choose something that's sort of, that orangy look and I make it a bit darker and we go something like that.
13:45
And then we have this, this black, which I'm going to change back to white.
13:50
And, um, you know what, I'm going to actually change this.
13:56
There's another Cooper down here called Cooper Hewitt thin, which is the same font but just thinner.
14:04
Um, so there's that and we can make it a little bit bolder so you can read it and uh, you know, you could play with this a little bit, but again, don't go super crazy.
14:13
You, you want this to be along the same lines as the color palette.
14:18
Um, so here's, so here's an example where now it's kind of similar tone, um, or we can actually go a little bit darker.
14:26
So it's not quite black.
14:28
It's often another mistake people make is that they go white and they go black.
14:33
And you actually can add a lot of feeling or emotion texture to an image by not making it well, not quite black and not quite white.
14:43
Um, so let's do this.
14:44
Let's actually try that color and this toolbox piece.
14:49
Let's make it the same for now and let's see how it looks.
14:54
Okay.
14:54
Not bad.
14:55
Um, so I can go ahead and I can adjust these and you'll notice the trick.
15:00
I haven't, I don't know if you can, uh, see what I've done yet, but I'm going to tell you this trick now.
15:07
What I did was visually, I essentially kind of drew a box with my eyes around the text.
15:20
What I mean by that is if you remember hoops before, so I'm just kind of making sure that these are the same size, the, the white lines.
15:29
Um, if you remember before the parenting was a lot bigger, the vow was too big and then the toolbox was smaller.
15:36
So what I did was just essentially drew effectively.
15:41
Let me show you if I actually take a box here, kind of draw a box around the, um, the text.
15:53
So if I were to actually put this, and I'll just kind of show you as an example, not gonna keep this box here, but just to show you, it's as if I drew a box around this.
16:03
So the parenting is a little bit smaller with then the toolbox, but we can like draw an invisible box around it just kind of makes it a lot neater as opposed to this being, um, you know, much bigger.
16:18
Um, it wasn't that big, but maybe both like this.
16:22
And you can see it's like, well that's not as nice, right?
16:25
I mean it kind of looked a lot nicer when it's sort of in this sort of box.
16:29
Um, that this invisible box where we have the, you can almost draw a line, uh, around it and it's like a container for the text.
16:39
Okay.
16:40
So I mean, this looks okay.
16:41
Again, you can spend as little as long or as little time as you'd like.
16:45
Maybe you like the colors, maybe you don't, um, you know, the white and the dark here probably don't entirely make sense.
16:52
Uh, so let's just kind of make it all the same and get this thing here, make it the same.
16:59
Okay, well I'm going to leave it now.
17:01
Looks good.
17:02
Happy with it.
17:03
What I'm going to do is we need to get this cover as the first page of the PDF.
17:10
Now you remember we have this page here where we have the front cover and we want to replace this with the new cover.
17:19
So there are a couple of ways to do this.
17:21
If you're on a Mac, it's actually super easy.
17:24
Uh, if you were on a PC, you could use a tool called Adobe Acrobat professional.
17:29
If you have that, fantastic.
17:31
And that is a paid tool, but I'm going to show you another way using some web based tools that are free that you can give it a shot and it will save you time and let you modify PDFs in a really simple way.
17:43
Okay, so first off though, I need to download this.
17:45
I'm going to download, I'm going to make sure I download it as a PDF and print.
17:50
Click on download.
17:52
Now I'm going to go into going to show you the, if you're on a Mac, I'm going to show you the simple way here where you can use the tool called preview, which is the default PDF viewer.
18:03
And in the open that up on uh, on the back here.
18:08
Now this is the original, uh, I'm just going to click on thumbnails so we can see the little picture here.
18:15
And anyway, so the, this is the, the new cover.
18:17
This is the original.
18:18
What I'm going to do here in preview is click on that first page and then just click on delete.
18:24
Boom, it's gone.
18:25
Really simple right now I'm going to drag this picture.
18:29
It's on the sidebar here and put it on the right.
18:32
We replace the cover.
18:33
I just go ahead and save it and we now have a brand new cover for our ebook.
18:38
It looks completely different.
18:39
It's a different title.
18:40
No one would ever recognize that this was done for you or dummy content.
18:45
Okay.
18:46
Now what if you don't have a Mac?
18:49
What if you don't have, um, you know, the ability to do that and no problem.
18:53
So I was just going to go back, revert my changes and I'm going to use a tool and there are many out there.
18:58
If you just type in PDF merger or merge PDF, you will find lots.
19:03
Uh, there's this tool called small pdf.com
19:06
Um, and they let you use a tool for free, I think for, you know, a couple times every hour or so.
19:13
Um, there is a paid version.
19:15
You can take a look at it if necessary.
19:16
Honestly, you probably won't need it, but what you will need to do is you'll need to upload two things.
19:23
You'll need to upload the cover that you just created in Canva and then you'll need to upload the PDF that you want to replace.
19:31
So I'm going to go ahead and do that and upload the cover, and then I'm going to go in here and okay, I'm going to upload the PDF.
19:43
Okay, so both are now upload enough.
19:46
You stop here.
19:48
What's going to happen is it's going to give you the new cover and then the second page is going to be the old cover and you don't want that.
19:54
You want to get rid of that original cover, replace it with your brand new one.
19:58
So you want to click here on page mode.
20:00
You'll click on the first cover or the the old cover here, and then click on the X, boom, done.
20:06
And you can go ahead and delete any additional pages if you want to.
20:09
You know, you can go ahead, delete this or whatever you'd like.
20:12
But all I'm going to do now is at the bottom, I'm going to click on merge PDF.
20:17
So I've got to click on the download here and that's open it up and you'll see it.
20:25
Now merchant, we have the new cover and then the rest of the book below.
20:30
So super simple way of taking a cover, a taking a PDF, a report, a slide deck, whatever you'd like from the peeler Dominique content library, designing a brand new cover and then inserting that into the PDF to make your very own version with their own cover, your own branding, your own style.
20:50
Now I showed you a few different ways of doing this.
20:52
First of all, I showed you how you can just add your branding, your name or your, your logo onto the PDF using the PLR.me
21:01
members only exclusive tool, the PDF render and super simple.
21:05
Great way to add your branding, your, um, your name, your logo, your website throughout the book or just on the front cover.
21:13
And then I showed you how you can use Canva to create a brand new cover of your own using um, very simple, very free tool.
21:22
And of course you can then download photos from a place called every pixel that lets you search across multiple different free stock photo sites.
21:31
You can download that and use that as the backdrop of your front cover.
21:35
Then I showed you if you're on a Mac, how you can use preview to change up this picture.
21:42
Um, uh, this, this front cover just by hitting delete on the keyboard, dragging the new one on and saving that and you're done.
21:51
Or if you're on a PC, you can use a tool called small PDF, um, which lets you merge PDFs and add or remove pages to a PDF.
22:03
So that's how you do it.
22:04
Super simple.
22:05
There are over 11,000 brandable resources at your fingertips within the peeler dummy content library.
22:11
