Creating videos is so hard.
0:02
I get so anxious and nervous when the camera goes on.
0:06
I don't like to do this. Why am I doing this? Why should just stop right now?
0:11
Creating videos. We'll have to be hard.
0:13
You just have to kind of be you now. Okay. I know that's easier said than done.
0:18
And the moment that the camera turns on,
0:20
it's easy to freeze up and kind of tripled words,
0:23
but do you know how you get better? That's true.
0:27
You get better. The more you do something, right?
0:31
I'm going to show you how you can make your videos more engaging.
0:35
And I'm going to show you how you can also do some kind of fun things using
0:39
post-production techniques to make your video kind of interactive and exciting
0:44
and you know, real people in to get them really excited to watch them. Yeah.
0:48
More of you
0:54
Hey, Ronnie, here, founder of PLR.me.
0:56
And I want to show you some really cool and simple techniques to make yourself
1:01
really have fun while recording video.
1:04
So what I'm doing right now is I'm just standing because when we sit down,
1:08
we have a tendency to slouch and that doesn't look so good on camera. Now,
1:13
when I was on a national broadcast for a daytime talk show,
1:17
I found it interesting that their set,
1:19
the couches that they use had no backs.
1:23
It kind of only went up maybe six inches or so.
1:26
And the reason why is they don't want you to slouch.
1:29
They want you to be sitting up straight and looking really healthy and, uh,
1:34
just having a good posture and that projects so much when you're recording video
1:38
So, Hey...
1:40
if you have a tendency of slouching or if your couch is so comfortable and you
1:43
just tend to sink into it, stand!
1:47
Stand up when you're recording my first tip. Okay.
1:50
So tip number two.
1:52
How do you have a engaging video that people want to actually watch?
1:57
Well, you need energy. Yes. You need energy.
2:02
You need to be more of you. Now.
2:04
What tends to happen when the camera turns on is we sort of get a
2:09
little flustered. We kind of freeze up a little bit and you know what happened?
2:13
We kind of talk a little quieter and sometimes too
2:18
fast or sometimes really, really slow.
2:23
Well, it doesn't work on camera.
2:25
We need to have energy now. Not everyone's going to be a standup comedian.
2:30
I am definitely not, but that's okay.
2:33
It's just about projecting that energy and that enthusiasm.
2:36
So the way I do it is I sort of build myself up here.
2:39
Maybe you use your hands more,
2:42
or maybe you actually just talk a little faster and sometimes pull back and
2:46
sometimes you get louder or some things you get a little softer too,
2:49
and that's okay.
2:51
But you want to actually just put more into you now when the
2:56
camera turns on,
2:56
the biggest tip that I ever heard was he to magnify your personality and your
3:01
energy by like 10.
3:04
So it means you need to have more energy when the camera turns on, not less,
3:08
don't pull back,
3:09
push through and add more excitement and enthusiasm in your voice and
3:14
your posture and even in your gestures. Okay.
3:18
Tip number three. Now this is one of my favorite techniques.
3:22
When recording videos, I like to do something called jump cuts.
3:27
Wait, what's a junk junk.
3:29
It's really fun because jump cuts sorta keep the video moving.
3:33
It's sort of like a train.
3:34
It just keeps chugging along and junk cuts lets you sort of hide
3:39
mistakes, but also gets people engaged.
3:42
And it's actually really simple. Sometimes when you complete a sentence,
3:46
you can just pause for a second and then move. And when you do that,
3:50
you can cut the pauses out, stitch it together.
3:53
And now your video was kind of having this cool motion,
3:56
this movement where maybe you start off on one side of the camera and then all
4:00
of a sudden you're way over here. And Wu is magic. How did I get over here?
4:03
Well,
4:03
it's fun and it's engaging and it's a great way to actually just sort of be more
4:08
you on camera, but also hide mistakes. If you flub up a few words,
4:13
Hey that's okay. I'm surprised that I didn't flub up the word flub.
4:18
So it's just a matter of keeping the pace moving.
4:21
We don't want to see a video of that's 10 minutes,
4:24
but really only three minutes of action.
4:26
Cool content where there's seven minutes of um, yeah.
4:32
So jump cuts. Keep the pace moving and it allows you to hide mistakes,
4:36
but it just kind of is engaging and it's an exciting and sort of a fun way for
4:41
people to watch your videos. Oh, and now one more thing about junk cuts. See,
4:45
you don't just have to change your position. You can also zoom in.
4:49
So when you're editing your video,
4:51
maybe you can punch in or you can be farther away.
4:56
And if you're standing, when you're recording,
4:58
you can also just sort of move closer to the camera.
5:00
Just like what I'm doing now to get more intimate and kind of get more personal
5:04
and you can feel the energy it's different, right? I'm closer.
5:08
It's different versus I'm going to stand here.
5:12
I'm not going to move.
5:14
I don't want to be too many hand gestures and understand super still.
5:18
And no, no don't do that. We,
5:22
we want to have some motion. We want to have some movement. We want to be real.
5:26
We're not robots.
5:27
We're not robots. We're not robots.
5:31
Be you use your real voice. Use your tone,
5:35
use your style and your energy. Again, just be you.
5:38
One other tip is to use a teleprompter teleprompter. Yes,
5:44
a teleprompter. And it's actually really handy.
5:47
The one that I have is the pad caster, parrot teleprompter.
5:50
And honestly it is fantastic. It just clips onto the camera.
5:54
And then you use your phone as the actual teleprompter.
5:58
So you get a free app and you can actually read the phone. Who's that with the,
6:02
um, the special glass that comes with the teleprompter, uh,
6:05
there are other teleprompters that you can use your phone as the camera and I'll
6:10
link to those in the description. But here's the thing.
6:13
Teleprompters are only as good as you. Okay.
6:16
We don't want to sound robotic when we're talking. And honestly,
6:19
you probably can't tell when I'm using a teleprompter and when I'm not okay
6:24
right now, I'm not using a teleprompter,
6:26
but there have been many videos where I am using a teleprompter.
6:29
And quite frankly,
6:30
you probably wouldn't have guessed why a few tips write the script as though
6:34
you're speaking it, add in. So an almond eyes, if you need to,
6:39
just so that it can really pop and sound like you sound like you're speaking and
6:43
that means you can't write it. Like you're writing an academic paper.
6:48
It's not an academic paper. You want to write like you're speaking. Okay.
6:51
So another tip with teleprompters is to practice. Okay?
6:56
Practice. If you get familiar with your script,
6:58
you'll really get comfortable with it.
7:01
And especially if you're writing as though you're speaking, Hey,
7:04
you can actually kind of sound natural.
7:07
And sometimes what I do is I add pauses.
7:10
When I'm speaking where I kind of look away a little bit.
7:12
I don't always focus only on the words, but Hey,
7:16
just kind of look around, feel comfortable.
7:19
And when you're using junk cuts, Hey, you can just cut something out, pop it in,
7:24
zoom in, zoom out. It can all be together,
7:27
beautifully in post production.
7:30
What other tips do I have? Okay.
7:34
In post-production you can add other visuals,
7:37
things like text on the screen that emphasizes your point or
7:42
screencast. If you're showing something on your computer,
7:45
you can scroll through and actually show the webpage or the product or the image
7:49
that you're working on. Right? There's always B roll B.
7:52
Roll is your best friend.
7:54
Wait where's BMO B roll is simply footage that
7:59
you can pop into your video. That could be, you know,
8:03
if I mentioned galloping horses,
8:05
we can show a bunch of galloping horses on the screen.
8:08
Or if I mentioned a chef preparing a beautiful meal,
8:11
I can show that footage on the screen,
8:14
or I can show a video of clowns juggling at a circus that's B roll B roll
8:19
can really add excitement and engagement into your video because it's not just
8:24
you talking for five minutes straight or 20 minutes straight.
8:28
It's just other footage that sort of adds excitement and engagement that your
8:33
audience can watch.
8:34
But there's something else that's cool about B roll B roll also hides
8:39
mistakes. So Hey,
8:40
if you need to look down at your script to remember what you're saying,
8:44
Hey that's okay. You can still record record using the exact same setup,
8:48
exact same mic. So the sound sounds the same,
8:52
but the B roll HIEs that you're showing else something other than your
8:56
face. So that's what I love about B roll. Uh,
8:59
it allows you to make it different, make it interesting, make it,
9:04
show some other visuals, but also mistakes. Okay.
9:08
And for the last tip, uh, honestly,
9:11
a really good part of good videos is just good lighting and good sound.
9:15
Now you've probably heard of that before, but it's true.
9:20
It really is. And honestly, your phone,
9:23
whether it's an iPhone or whether it's an Android, if it's fairly modern,
9:27
it's good enough to record videos.
9:29
All the latest iPhone for the last several years are recording and 4k.
9:33
So you definitely have the camera that you need, but honestly,
9:38
a big part of it is just good lights.
9:40
Now I have some very simple lights on right now and you can buy cheap lights on
9:44
Amazon and that just, you know,
9:46
you put it right behind the camera and that'll be good enough.
9:48
I'm also using a little lapel mic and it's really simple.
9:53
You just plug it right into the camera.
9:55
And it's really simple because it captures beautiful sound. And it's right here,
10:00
right near my mouth.
10:01
You can't hear the crazy kids playing upstairs and you can't hear the baby
10:06
crying and all that other stuff going on in my house right now because you know
10:09
what, it just captures me and it captures my voice,
10:12
but the sound quality is going to be great.
10:14
And it's going to be really absolutely more than enough
10:18
for what you need when recording.
10:20
Now I'll put links in the description below for the lights that I'm using and
10:25
the microphone that I'm using now in terms of the camera,
10:27
I'm using a Panasonic GH five, Hey, you don't need that. Honestly. You really,
10:32
really don't just use your phone. That's more than enough. Honestly.
10:35
I think you're going to find that gives you great video quality,
10:38
the bigger pieces, great lights and great sound. Well, that's it.
10:42
Those are my main tips that I use when creating video.
10:46
And it's a matter of getting comfortable in your own skin about having energy
10:50
and really bringing 10 times that personality and using tools using the
10:55
teleprompter or using good lighting or using a good microphone and also
11:00
using jump cuts. And the cool thing is it just,
11:02
it can really bring things together, making your videos more, engaging,
11:07
more exciting, more interesting to watch. All right, well, that's it for me.
11:10
I hope that you found this video very helpful. Uh,
